Apoquel is a popular allergy medication for dogs that provides relief from itching and inflammation caused by various allergens, such as food, fleas, and environmental factors. However, it’s crucial to follow the correct Apoquel dosing chart dog to avoid any side effects of Apoquel tablets for dogs.

Without getting crazy technical (because I’m not a vet), it actually blocks the receptors in the brain that tell the dog to itch. Pretty cool, huh?

Determining the correct dosage of Apoquel for your dog depends on several factors, including their weight and medical history. A veterinarian can help determine the correct dosage and frequency of the medication, but it’s essential to be aware of the different dosages available and the potential side effects.

As I said, we have tried all of the medications listed, including Apoquel. To be honest, we’ve only had moderate success with any of them.

Norman took 1 Apoquel pill each day to manage the symptoms as best we could. We tried to take him off these medications a few different times for various reasons, but he always ended up being miserable after a few days.

Apoquel Dosage for Dogs

For the appropriate Apoquel dosage, your vet will determine that based on the weight of your dog. Norman weighed roughly 20 pounds, so he took one 5.4mg pill. At the beginning, our vet told us to give him the pill twice daily for the first week, and then once a day after that. He continued to take 1 pill each day, although we started breaking them in half and giving him half a pill twice a day. I’m not sure it really made a difference, but it was something our vet had us do when he was taking Temaril-P.

Side effects of Apoquel tablets for dogs can range from mild to severe, and it’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms to watch out for. Common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite, while more severe side effects can include infections and decreased immune system function. It’s crucial to monitor your dog for any adverse reactions and consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns.

To supplement the Apoquel, a lot of owners have had good luck with anti-itch skin and coat health chews. Or even adding Omega-3 oils, like salmon oil, to their dog’s food. You can find a variety of those options at Pet Honesty.

It is important though to follow the Apoquel dosage carefully. In our case, our vet allowed us to use it for a longer period of time provided that we brought Norman in to be monitored.

Additionally, monitor your dog closely for any side effects and report them to your veterinarian right away if they occur.

Remember that using Apoquel, or any medication, is only one part of managing your dog’s allergies. Other measures, such as minimizing exposure to allergens, maintaining good hygiene, and ensuring a healthy diet, can also make a significant difference in your dog’s overall well-being. By combining these measures with the appropriate Apoquel dosage, you can help your dog live a happier, healthier life, free from the discomfort and distress caused by allergies.

My Frenchie is on 2 X apoquel a day as his allergies are quite bad, even in winter this year for some reason, I did change his diet in the summer to butternut box ( which he loves) and I am beginning to wonder if this has something to do with his constant itch, if I take him off he is in so much discomfort. His skin is in great condition though with just a couple of bald patches behind his ears when he stratches too much :(?

I have a white pitt-bull/boxer mix. When I adopted him from the previous owner, my dog had itched his face, paws, hind legs, and belly raw. I got a blood test to determine the issue which happened to be environmental (trees, grass, weeds, and dust mites). 16mg of Apiquil didn’t seem to help much but it did allow me to start ending the itch cycle of self-harm and scabbing. I quickly got my dog on an immunotherapy schedule which was unbelievably expensive. The immunotherapy works but, like pills, there is a constant maintenance phase. Unfortunately, there is going to be… Read more »
