It has been super busy around here the last few weeks but I wanted to give a quick update on Norman and link to a short post comparing different atopic dermatitis treatments. As you can see from the picture, the effectiveness of the Cytopoint shot seems to have diminished greatly. He remains pretty itchy and the skin has not had an opportunity to heal.
As mentioned in a previous post, we have started to mix in the Zignature Kangaroo formula with his previous food. We’ve also been throwing in some raw carrots and blueberries. He really seems to like them. I’m wondering if we should just get another bag of the Zignature and give it to him straight. But of course, we’d really like to finish the food we have currently.
I talked to the vet about doing the blood test for allergies, but she seemed luke-warm on the idea. I know most feel it’s not super accurate, and the cost estimate was about $200. So you hate to pay that amount for something that might not give you a definite answer. I’ll definitely post if we decide to go through with it.
Also, I came across this post from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. It’s a nice, concise summary of the main treatment options that help curtail the symptoms of atopic dermatitis. They all have a place in the battle, and we’ve tried them all.
