Cytopoint Injection Update – 1 Week

It’s been exactly one week since Norman received his first Cytopoint injection. If you follow Itchy Frenchie on social media, then you may have seen a few updates already. And if you don’t, you should obviously scroll to the bottom of this post and follow us! Here’s our Instagram feed.

Cytopoint Injection Results

We actually started to notice some nice results within the first day. His hives had gone away and his belly looked so much better. Fewer bumps, less redness, and definitely not as itchy. Over the weekend, we drove a couple of hours to see some family and took Norman with us. We were a little concerned that he may be susceptible to a flare up being in a different environment. Or possibly finding some loose scraps on the floor (There were 8 kids running around!).

Luckily, he had no issues all weekend. We also haven’t noticed any of the side effects that were mentioned in the previous post. So, as far as we’re concerned, Cytopoint might be the miracle med that we’ve been waiting several years for. With the suggestion of our vet, we have continued to give Norman half an Apoquel pill twice daily.

Here is the before and after picture of Norman’s belly. If you want to read more about the “before” picture, here is the post from a couple weeks ago.

On the left is Norman before the Cytopoint injection. The picture on the right was taken 1 week after his first injection.

As you can see, the results are…WOW! He obviously looks better, but it’s clear that he feels better too. He is not spending half the night itching or licking his paws, and he hasn’t been rubbing his face against the carpet or furniture. As a bonus, this also means we get to sleep a little better at night and not have to worry so much about him waking up our toddler.

Of course, these results are only through the first week. The shot should last about 4 weeks, so hopefully we’re writing another post just like this one in a month. Who knows, maybe the title of itchy Frenchie will no longer belong to Norman!

So for now, our review of the Cytopoint injection gets two thumbs (or paws) up! If anyone else has tried it, we’d love to hear about your results. Leave us a comment here, or contact us on social media. We want to hear from you!

Has anyone experienced the second injection of cytopoint doesn’t work after a great result from the first one? Just had my Lhasa injection of it earlier this week and she is still itching, so upset as I had the best result from her first one and was relieved for her and me that she was so much happier and itch free, it was a no brainer to get the second one after five weeks but unfortunately nowhere near as effective. Would love to hear from others if it has happened with their dog.

Yes, I just gave the 2nd injection and 3 days in and not seeing the immediate improvement we saw from the first shot.

Join the discussion… My dog has been getting these for 3 months First month great. Second month ok, now I am taking him to another vet with his skin falling off and he is almost completely bald, running a fever. Check out petforum.com. Several dogs have died after these injections. Same symptoms as mine. New drug and untested. I wish someone had told me of the side affects because now my dog is very ill. Don’t use this. If my dog survives this reaction you can bet he will never get another one.

My little x chihuana has just had her 2nd injection, she did not last the 4 weeks but I had to put her back on apaquel at the 3 week mark as she started licking and rubbing her stomach, paws on the carpet again. Se seems to get bad after the rain so we are thinking it is like a contact dermatitis with the wet grass when she goes outside to the toilet. She gets quite yeasty with her ears too on apaquel, So now we will see with the 2nd injection of cynapoint if it will last her the… Read more »
